We are an alliance of parents and community members who have come together to fight drug abuse in Abington. Through education and awareness, we envision a community in which all of its members, every family, are aware of the dangers of illegal drug use and abuse of prescription drugs. We are proactive in promoting the health of all of its citizens
The Abington Antidrug Coalition was formed in the winter of 2008, when caring and concerned parents, citizens, and town leaders became determined to do something with regard to drug overdose deaths, drug addiction and abuse in our town. We are not alone..this problem is in every town around us on the South Shore and in all of Massachusetts. We are committed, by education and awareness, to bringing this problem to light and making things better. This problem affects all townspeople with its many aspects from proper disposal of prescription medication to drug related crime, from our elementary kids to our senior citizens, everyone is affected and can be part of the solution.
-When 60% of teens who have abused prescription painkillers do so before the age of 15.
-When more people die of overdose in Massachusetts than car accidents.
-When more than two people die everyday in Massachusetts of drug overdose
- When Abington has had 3 fatal overdoses in the first 3 months of 2009.
Then it is time for us all to stand up and make a difference. We encourage your participation, help and thoughts.
